Groundbreaking for Clarksburg Town Center Expected Late This Year or Early Next Year

Exciting developments are underway at the Clarksburg Town Center retail core as Weis Markets prepares to become the anchor grocery store. The addition of Weis is anticipated to be a key driver of foot traffic to the retail core, benefiting any surrounding businesses that sign on.

In alignment with their business model for new locations, Weis plans to incorporate gas pumps in the parking lot. Montgomery County requires that all gas station projects undergo a conditional use zoning process, distinct from the site plan process. This ensures that an independent hearing examiner reviews each proposal. The gas pumps for Weis at Clarksburg Town Center were submitted for conditional use review in 2024, and approval was granted in May, according to an update by Elm Street Development.

Following this approval, the county mandates an amendment to the site plan to include the gas pumps, which is expected to be reviewed by the Planning Board this fall. To facilitate progress, Elm Street Development has applied for building permits for several structures within the Retail Core. Concurrently, Weis is finalizing its construction plan, with intentions to submit for a building permit soon. Groundbreaking for the Retail Core area is projected for later this year or early next year, pending approvals.

Meanwhile, those eager to experience a new Weis store can visit the latest location which opened on Thursday, June 19th, in the Lake Linganore neighborhood of Frederick. Elm Street Development will continue to provide updates through the HOA as the project advances.
