Governor Wes Moore Proclaims August as Breastfeeding Month in Maryland

Governor Wes Moore has proclaimed August 2025 as Breastfeeding Month in Maryland, recognizing the health, environmental, and economic benefits of breastfeeding. The proclamation encourages all Marylanders to support breastfeeding through sustainable workplace practices, healthcare systems, and community efforts.

Per the Maryland Department of Health: Proclamation from the Governor of the State of Maryland
“Whereas, breastfeeding is critical to health and prevents hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity; andWhereas, breastfeeding protects our planet by reducing pollution, supplying a renewable baby food source, ecologically nurturing the parent-infant bond, and ensuring environmental sustainability; andWhereas, sustainable support systems help parents who breastfeed meet their goals and provide the healthiest feeding for the first six months of life, as well as in combination with family foods through two years of life or longer; and

Whereas, prioritizing breastfeeding with sustainable workplace support, such as parental leave and milk expression breaks, enhances breastfeeding success while also sustaining the economy; and

Whereas, everyone, including the government, healthcare providers, employers, the media,family, and friends, shares the responsibility of participating in sustainable support systems to create successful breastfeeding outcomes; and

Whereas, Maryland citizens are encouraged to prioritize breastfeeding by protecting, promoting, and supporting all breastfeeding families.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WES MOORE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND, do hereby proclaim AUGUST 2025 as BREASTFEEDING MONTH in Maryland, and do commend this observation to all of our citizens.”
