Cici’s Pizza Closes Last Maryland Location

Maryland’s all-you-can-eat pizza landscape has seen its final Cici’s slice disappear with the recent closure of the Frederick location at 5010 Buckeystown Pike. This marks the complete departure of the popular pizza buffet chain, according to the Cici’s Pizza website. The Frederick location’s phone number is no longer in service, and the restaurant is marked as closed on Google and Yelp. Additionally, it has been removed from the corporate website.

The Frederick Cici’s Pizza has now been replaced by VI Pizza, an independent establishment that, according to online commenters, offers a similar buffet-style concept. However, opinions are divided among patrons, with some expressing that VI Pizza provides a comparable experience, while others lament that it’s “not the same” as the beloved Cici’s.

This closure follows a trend for Cici’s Pizza in Maryland. Several years ago, the chain also shuttered its Rockville location at 12111 Rockville Pike in the Pike Center. That closure, confirmed by Cici’s Pizza in July 2020, was attributed to the “economic realities brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.” The Rockville location was Cici’s last in Montgomery County, closing after an earlier Gaithersburg location had also closed.

In recent years, the Frederick location served as the last remaining Cici’s Pizza outpost in Maryland, a destination for families and budget-conscious diners seeking an array of pizzas, pasta, salad, and dessert options. Its transformation into VI Pizza, while offering a similar concept, signifies the end of an era for the national chain’s presence in the state. Marylanders now seeking the distinct Cici’s experience will need to travel to Virginia for the closest location.
