Heat Emergency Alert Extended Through Wednesday; Heat Index Values to Reach 105º F or Higher

Montgomery County has extended its Heat Emergency Alert through Wednesday, July 30, at 9 p.m. Forecasts indicate that heat index values may reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit or higher during this period. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit time spent outdoors, and take regular breaks in cool, shaded, or air-conditioned areas whenever possible.

Per Montgomery County: “Residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their pets, against heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Try to stay in an airconditioned location. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outdoors. Stay hydrated, even if you do not feel thirsty. When possible, take frequent breaks in a cool, shaded area.

County facilities, including libraries, swimming pools, recreation centers and senior centers are places to cool off during normal operating hours. Public locations such as indoor malls could also be utilized.

The Office of Animal Services will enforce Executive Regulations 17-17Anti Cruelty Conditions for Dogs and Other Pets during this heat emergency. During a Heat Emergency Alert, outdoor housing for an animal as described in Section 3.0 is inadequate and additional measures must be taken to provide adequate cooling. The additional measures must be approved by the Director of Montgomery County Animal Services Division.  During a period of extreme heat, pets must not be left outside unattended.
