Bethesda Woman Charged with Embezzling More Than $100K from Michigan County

A Bethesda woman has been charged with felony embezzlement over $100,000 and felony embezzlement by a public official following a Michigan State Police investigation. Authorities allege she misappropriated grant funds while serving as a Specialty Court Administrator in Van Buren County, Michigan; she was arraigned on August 5.

According to Michigan State Police , “Michigan State Police (MSP) Fifth District Special Investigation Section is announcing the arrest of Rachel Celeste Lindley, 42 of Bethesda, Maryland, for felony embezzlement over $100,000 and felony embezzlement by a public official.

Lindley previously worked for Van Buren County as the Specialty Court Administrator. Following her separation from the county, she relocated to Maryland where she currently resides and works. Lindley was arrested following an MSP led investigation that uncovered evidence she embezzled over $100,000 from various grants. She was arraigned in the 7th District Court on Tuesday, August 5.

Embezzlement over $100,000 is a felony, punishable by imprisonment up to 20 years and/or a fine of not more than $50,000.00. Embezzlement by a public officer is a felony, punishable by imprisonment up to 10 years and/or a fine of not more than 5,000 dollars.”
