A fatal head-on collision early Wednesday morning has closed a portion of westbound Sandy Spring Road in Burtonsville. The Montgomery County Police Department issued a traffic advisory at 4:14 am, warning drivers to seek an alternate route and to expect significant delays.
According to Assistant Chief David Pazos of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS), crews were dispatched to the 4500 block of Sandy Spring Road at approximately 3:32 am for a collision with entrapment. Responders found two vehicles involved in a head-on collision, with both drivers trapped inside.
Unfortunately, one adult male was pronounced dead at the scene. The second driver, also an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with trauma-related injuries. The collision has resulted in the closure of westbound Sandy Spring Road at Birmingham Drive. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the individuals involved.
