MCPS Important August Dates to Remember

August is a crucial month for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as it marks the end of summer and the beginning of a new academic year. Here are some key dates students, parents, staff, and the community should be aware of for August 2025:

There will be a series of professional days for teachers, known as pre-service week from Monday, August 18, through Friday, August 22.

A new addition to the MCPS calendar is Student Transition Day on Monday, August 25. This is a non-instructional, full day of school designed to help students acclimate to a new environment before the rest of the student body arrives. This day is an opportunity for students to get to know their new school, teachers, and classmates, fostering a smoother transition into the new school year. This day is specifically for:

• Students entering Kindergarten, Grade 6, and Grade 9.
• Students entering Grade 3 at elementary schools that service only Grades 3-5.
• Any student new to a school or MCPS.

The official first day of school for all students on the traditional calendar is Tuesday, August 26. This is the day all MCPS students will return to their classrooms for the 2025-2026 academic year.
