DICK’S $10.2 Million Transformation to House of Sport Concept Continues

This past March we let you know that DICK’S Sporting Goods at 2 Grand Corner in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront is transforming into a DICK’S House of Sport– a concept designed to deliver a completely immersive experience for shoppers. The store is now aiming for a January 2026 completion date (progress photos available below).

The $10.2 million renovation to the new House of Sport model will include amenities such as rock climbing walls, indoor tracks, and simulated driving ranges that set it apart from traditional sporting goods stores.

The store is remaining open throughout the transition and currently relies on stairs and an elevator to move between the two floors. The previous escalators that were inside the store have been permanently removed and will be replaced with two large sets of stairs (with the elevator continuing to operate).

“Compared to a typical Dick’s store, athletes are traveling farther to visit House of Sport, increasing the time they spend in the store and visiting more frequently,” DICK’S CEO Lauren Hobart said during an earnings call last year. DICK’S Sporting Goods currently has approximately 20 House of Sport store and anticipates opening 75 to 100 House of Sport stores by 2027.
