Store Closing Sales Begin at Claire’s

Store closing sales have begun at Claire’s locations, including the Westfield Montgomery Mall store in Bethesda.

According to USA Today, Claire’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time on August 6 and has identified more than 1,100 stores that could close, while seeking a buyer for about 800 remaining locations. Liquidation sales are underway at some stores but will end if a viable sale agreement is reached. CEO Chris Cramer said the retailer has received multiple letters of intent from potential buyers and is working to finalize a transaction that would allow the company to remain in operation. Founded in 1961, the Illinois-based chain operates 1,326 U.S. stores and is widely known for selling jewelry, accessories, and offering ear piercing services.

Claire’s also has Montgomery County locations at Clarksburg Premium Outlets, Gaithersburg, and Westfield Wheaton Mall.
