Viral Restaurateur Names Maryland Restaurant as his Favorite Place to Eat in the DMV

Nick Sevilla, a veteran middle school math teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown who is making his move into the local food scene with his social media account Mr. 8 That, recently spoke with viral restaurateur and Seneca Valley High School alumnus Shihan Chowdhury. The interview took place when Chowdhury’s popular Flavor Hive food truck visited his alma mater last Tuesday (full interview below).

During the interview, one of the questions Sevilla posed was about Chowdhury’s favorite restaurant in Montgomery County. Without hesitation, Chowdhury, a Seneca Valley graduate from 2007, declared, “I love Thai food. There’s a place called Sabai Sabai, just five minutes from Seneca Valley, and it’s hands down my favorite place to eat in the DMV.”

Launched in early 2024, The Flavor Hive quickly gained fame across the DMV region. Chowdhury leveraged his substantial online following to propel the business’s growth. Known for the brand’s signature “walking taco chips bag,” a customizable dish where customers bring their own bag of chips or greens to be filled with halal meats, cheeses, toppings, and sauces, it went viral for its generous portions and affordability.

Riding on its success, The Flavor Hive held a soft opening for its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 4260 John Marr Dr. in Annandale, VA, on Thursday, July 24. A second location is already underway in Alexandria, with further plans for branches in Manassas, Georgetown, and another exciting site yet to be announced.
