7-Eleven to Permanently Close

7-Eleven at 1319 Fenwick Lane in Silver Spring will permanently close on Wednesday, August 20, according to a report by Source of the Spring. The store is located on the lower level of the Arrive Silver Spring apartment complex.

Last year, CNN reported that 7-Eleven would close 444 “underperforming” stores across North America, citing declining sales, reduced traffic, inflation pressures, and a sharp drop in cigarette purchases. The closures represent about 3% of its portfolio, though the company says it is still expanding in growth markets and investing in food as competition from chains like Wawa and Sheetz intensifies.

In December, we reported that 7-Eleven had closed Montgomery County locations at 8472 Piney Branch Rd in Takoma Park and at 1701 Rockville Pike.
