Maryland Ranks 4th in Nation for Classroom Diversity

A new study by eLearning Industry ranked Maryland as the fourth-most racially diverse state for classrooms in the United States.

The state earned a diversity score of 34.8 out of 100, driven largely by strong representation of Black and Asian students, along with Hispanic and multiracial populations. Researchers noted that Maryland’s diversity fosters inclusive learning environments and recommended further investment in multicultural education and policies to support equity in schools.

According to the report, “Maryland ranks fourth with a racial diversity score of 34.8/100. The Old Line State demonstrates substantial diversity with Black students (scoring 14.0/20) and Asian students (scoring 5.4/20). The state also maintains representation of Hispanic students (scoring 5.2/15), students of Two or More races (scoring 2.8/10), American Indian/Alaska Native students (scoring 0.2/15), and Pacific Islander students (scoring 0.0/10). The white students occupy almost 33% of the classroom (scoring 7.2/10).”
