According to the Farmers’ Almanac‘s 2025-2026 Winter Outlook we are in store for a “cold, snow filled” winter here in Maryland, along with surrounding areas like. Northern Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, and much of the Atlantic Coast into New Jersey, New York, and New England area.
According to the Almanac’s extended winter forecast, The Mid-Atlantic, especially mountainous areas, “should keep those shovels handy—periodic heavy snow is in the cards.” Additionally, a “significant cold snap in mid-January will keep most shivering. Winter’s wrath continues with another pronounced cold spell predicted for mid-February.”
When will it snow? The Almanac’s Atlantic Coast update predicts, “Frequent snowstorms in New England should keep snow lovers happy. Areas up and down the Atlantic Coast will see significant rain, mixing with snow from time to time. The Mid-Atlantic region is forecast to see some decent snow, especially for areas in the mountains.”
So how accurate are these predictions? The Almanac shared, “Though weather forecasting, and long-range forecasting, in particular, remains an inexact science, many longtime Almanac followers maintain that our forecasts are 80% to 85% accurate.” They go on to write, “Yes, nature throws us a curveball from time to time, but it doesn’t stop us from going out on a limb to not only predict weather patterns up to a year in advance, but to also put it in print.”
