Dogfish Head Alehouse to Celebrate 20 Years, Highlights Plans for Potential New Locations

Dogfish Head Alehouse, located at 800 W. Diamond Ave. in Gaithersburg, will celebrate its 20th anniversary next month.

To mark the milestone, the Gaithersburg Alehouse is hosting a weekend-long celebration featuring a “Pint Night Kickoff” on Friday, September 19, where guests will receive a free 20th-anniversary pint glass with the purchase of a dinner entrée, and a “20th Anniversary Extravaganza” on Saturday, September 20, featuring live music, beer tents, yard games, anniversary merchandise, and limited-time food specials.

In 2024, the Gaithersburg Alehouse was sold by its original owners to Viswanath Vasireddy, a DMV-based restaurateur whose hospitality group also owns several restaurants in Virginia, including Clarity in Vienna, Copperwood Tavern in Arlington, Bamboo Garden in Herndon, and Aura Ashburn Indian Food Paradise. We’re told that under the new ownership, the restaurant has undergone renovations and upgrades.

Dogfish Head Alehouse operates independently under a licensing agreement with Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, DE. The brewery was founded in 1995 by Sam Calagione and gained recognition for producing high-alcohol beers brewed with unique ingredients, such as chicory and pumpkin. In May 2019, Dogfish Head merged with The Boston Beer Company, makers of Samuel Adams.

Plans are also underway to expand the Dogfish Head Alehouse brand back into Northern Virginia, with discussions currently ongoing with potential landlords. Under the previous ownership, Dogfish Head Alehouse operated locations in Falls Church (6220 Leesburg Pike) and Fairfax (13041 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy), which closed in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Before becoming Dogfish Head Alehouse, the location at 800 W. Diamond Ave. was previously home to Pat & Mike’s, Il Costello, and West Diamond Grille.
