The communities of Kentlands and Lakelands are once again preparing to host their most anticipated annual event: the 32nd Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk, and Kid’s Fun Runs, which take place on Saturday, August 30th starting at 8am. This flagship event, serving as the Kentlands Community Foundation’s largest fundraiser, is set to draw over 1,300 participants and an impressive 4,000 attendees to the area, making it Montgomery County’s largest 5K road race.
More than just a race, the Kentlands/Lakelands 5K is a full-fledged community festival. Participants will navigate a scenic 5K course winding through the picturesque streets of the Lakelands and Kentlands neighborhoods, culminating in a spirited dash down Main Street to the finish line. Every 5K registration includes a high-quality Dri-Fit crew neck race shirt, with sizes available for men, women, and children.
The festivities extend beyond the race course. A lively Post-Race Merchant’s Expo will offer attendees the chance to connect with local businesses and community groups. Adding to the energetic atmosphere, local bands will be stationed along the course, providing live entertainment to motivate runners and delight spectators.
The event will conclude with an exciting awards ceremony, recognizing the top three male and female finishers with cash prizes, alongside various team awards perfect for families. Numerous raffle items, generously donated by local merchants, will also be up for grabs.
For the younger members of the community, the Kid’s Fun Runs offer two distances: 200 and 500 meters. Each Fun Run registration comes with a special cotton t-shirt, uniquely designed by a local child resident. A dedicated Kids’ Area will ensure a fun-filled time for children after their race. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual race component will also be available, allowing everyone to participate in supporting the Kentlands Community Foundation.
Residents and visitors planning to attend should note that road closure information for the event will be made available later this week by the Gaithersburg Police Department.
