Driver of Suspected Stolen Vehicle Rams Cruiser, Striking Officer’s Leg

On Thursday night, officers from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) were involved in an incident that unfolded on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. At approximately 8:16 pm, officers from the 3rd District attempted to initiate a traffic stop after identifying a stolen license plate on a vehicle suspected to be stolen. The location of the attempted stop was 9520 Georgia Ave.

The driver of the suspected stolen vehicle attempted to evade capture by ramming into a police cruiser. During the confrontation, one officer sustained minor injuries when the vehicle struck his leg. No other individuals were injured in the incident, although the police cruiser suffered damage. The suspect fled southbound into Washington DC.

Per MCPD on X at 9:34pm Thursday night: “At 8:16 p.m., 3D officers attempted a traffic stop of a stolen plate on a possible stolen vehicle at 9520 Georgia Ave. The driver rammed a cruiser, striking an officer’s leg, then fled SB into D.C. The officer has minor injuries. Cruiser damaged. No other injuries.
