Shoppers Food & Pharmacy has confirmed the upcoming closure of four of its Maryland stores, with operations ceasing on or before October 11, 2025. the sole Montgomery County location in Germantown is not included in the closures. The announcement, shared with team members, outlines the difficult decision as part of an ongoing evaluation of business performance and strategic restructuring.
The affected locations are:

• 2286 Middlesex – Essex, MD
• 2200 Corporate Drive – New Carrollton, MD
• 2349/2414 Waldorf – Waldorf, MD
• 2374 Westminster – Westminster, MD

According to the internal communication, signed by Rick Taylor, VP, Store Operations – Retail, the decision to close these stores was made after a thorough review and consideration of all available options. The company expressed its commitment to supporting team members through this transition.

This latest round of closures continues a trend for the Shoppers Food & Pharmacy brand, which has seen its footprint significantly reduced over the past few years as its parent company, United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), has divested or closed numerous locations.

It is important for residents of Montgomery County to note that there are no current plans to close the Shoppers Food & Pharmacy located in Germantown, MD. This location remains the sole Shoppers store in Montgomery County and is not included in the announced closures.
