Montgomery County law enforcement will hit the pavement in Rockville on Saturday, September 13, 2025, for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Maryland. The event aims to raise awareness and promote inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Per the press release, the untimed run, just under two miles, will circle Rockville Town Square. It’s a unique opportunity for community members to run alongside local law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes, with one of the athletes proudly carrying a torch throughout the race. Multiple agencies are scheduled to participate, including the Montgomery County Police, Rockville City Police, Takoma Park Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.
The event kicks off at 10am at 101 Monroe St., Rockville. An opening ceremony with representatives from local law enforcement and Special Olympics Maryland will begin at 10:30am, and the race is set to start at 11am. All proceeds from the event, including donations and registration fees, will go directly to Special Olympics Maryland. Runners can register on-site the day of the race by purchasing a commemorative race shirt for $20. Caps will also be available for $20 each.
As a token of appreciation, runners who wear their race shirts can enjoy a 20% discount on their entire check at Finnegan’s Wake Irish Pub. For more information, you can contact Officer Shereen Abdelhamed of the Montgomery County Police Department at 240.428.9410 or [email protected].
