Forbes Highlights Upcoming Michelin-Recommended Maryland Restaurant

We’ve previously reported that the renowned Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, celebrated for its Michelin Guide recommendations and Shanghainese cuisine, is set to open its doors this fall at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. This highly anticipated arrival was also recently recommended by Forbes in an article highlighting “Where To Eat And Drink In New York City For The 2025 U.S. Open.”

Nan Xiang is not just another restaurant; it’s a culinary institution with a storied history. The establishment has garnered widespread critical acclaim, most notably receiving consistent Michelin Guide recommendations for nine consecutive years (2009-2017) for its masterful take on traditional soup dumplings, also known as xiao long bao. These delicate parcels of minced meat and savory broth, encased in a paper-thin wrapper, have captivated diners and critics alike since the brand’s inception in Flushing, New York, in 2006.

The secret to their success lies in a meticulous preparation process. Each dumpling is carefully handcrafted, ensuring the perfect balance of filling to wrapper and cooked to perfection, delivering an explosion of flavor with every bite. The broth, a rich and aromatic concoction, is the heart of the dumpling, providing a warm, comforting, and deeply satisfying experience. Nan Xiang is particularly famous for its variety, including the classic pork, as well as unique options like crab and pork.

Eater NY has also lauded Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, referring to Nan Xiang as a “Soup Dumpling All-Star” and a “Flushing food scene heavyweight.” Eater and other publications have highlighted Nan Xiang’s “Lucky Six” dumplings, a colorful set of six different flavors, including crab and pork, black truffle, and chicken. This unique offering has become one of the restaurant’s signature items and a major draw for both locals and tourists.
