Pines of Rome Property Listed for Sale with $3.75 Million Asking Price

The property that houses Pines of Rome, a Bethesda dining landmark with more than five decades of history, has been listed for sale with an asking price of $3.75 million. Located at 4918 Cordell Avenue, the freestanding building offers 4,012 square feet of space on a 5,250-square-foot lot. A representative from The Restaurant Broker, which is handling the listing, tells us the sale is due to Chef/Owner Marco Troiano’s plan to retire.

Pines of Rome first opened its doors in 1972 and quickly became one of Bethesda’s most beloved Italian restaurants, earning a loyal following for its old-school atmosphere and signature dishes, particularly its famed white pizza topped with fontina cheese. In 2017, the restaurant relocated from its longtime location off of Wisconsin Ave. on Hampden Ln. to its current space on Cordell Avenue, where it continued to operate as a family-run business. Its interior blends rustic Italian charm with brick finishes, natural light, and a nostalgic vibe that reflects its decades of tradition.

According to the listing by The Restaurant Broker, the property offers a total seating capacity of 130, spread across a main dining area, side dining area, private dining room, and upstairs space. Features include vinyl plank flooring, exposed brick interiors, large windows, a grease trap, a security system, and four to six designated parking spaces for owners and staff. A Class B Beer & Light Wine License allows the sale of beer and wine for both on-site dining and takeout.
