In October, we reported that Zaxbys was entering the Maryland market with three locations along the Eastern Shore. Then, this past spring, Zaxbys announced that it’s planning to open four additional restaurants across Baltimore and Howard counties. Now, Biz Journals reports that the Prince George’s County Planning Board approved the county’s first Zaxby’s location.
Per the report, Zaxby’s has approval to build a 2,064SF restaurant with two drive-thru lanes at the intersection of Brooks Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue. The restaurant will go “in the northwest corner of the intersection, across the street from a Wawa.” An opening timeframe/date is not yet available. Zaxbys menu includes fried chicken sandwiches, wings, chicken fingers known as “Zingers,” crinkle-cut fries, and Texas toast.
The first Maryland Zaxbys restaurant is expected to open in Cambridge later this year, followed by additional locations near a new hospital development in Easton and along Route 50 in the West Ocean City and Berlin area. The franchise is being developed by Curtis and Teresa Snyder, along with Thomas Mitchell.
Zaxbys is planning to expand further into Maryland through a new agreement with Baltimore-based Lattakia Group LLC, which will open four additional locations across Baltimore and Howard counties. Specific opening dates have not been announced, but potential sites include Nottingham, Rosedale, Glen Burnie, and Ellicott City.
Lattakia Group has experience in food service and franchising and is working to bring Zaxbys to the region as part of the company’s broader East Coast growth strategy. The expansion into the Baltimore area follows Zaxbys plans for additional development in other parts of Maryland as well as in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York City.
