Unconscious Resident Rescued from Apartment Fire; Serious Injuries Reported

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to a fire in a third-floor bathroom of an apartment building on the 8100 block of Needwood Road in Derwood.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, one unconscious adult occupant was rescued, revived, and transported to a burn unit with serious injuries from burns and possible smoke inhalation.  About 70 firefighters brought the fire under control, containing damage to the apartment of origin, though several nearby units sustained water damage. Losses are estimated at $75,000 and five adults have been displaced.
