Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to an automatic fire alarm at an unoccupied single-family home under renovation in the 3100 block of Cummings Lane near Western Avenue in Chevy Chase on Wednesday morning.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, firefighters discovered a small fire in the first-floor foyer caused by oily rags left unattended from refinishing work.
The fire was quickly extinguished, no injuries were reported, and damage is estimated at about $5,000. A traffic advisory remains in effect for Western Avenue, with some lanes blocked between Chestnut Street NW and Cummings Lane due to emergency activity.
