“Maryland’s Best Breakfast Sandwich” Now Available in Virginia

Lapu Lapu, along with Gwenie’s Pastries, is now open at 1417 S. Fern Street in Arlington, Virginia. The Filipino delicacy duo opened together today at 10am and will be open daily from 7am until 7pm at its Pentagon City location.

Lapu Lapu, featuring Filipino breakfast sandwiches, originally debuted at 216 Market St W. in Gaithersburg in June 2022 and is the sister restaurant of Kuya Ja’s Lechon Belly, a popular Filipino eatery in Rockville. Last year, Lapu Lapu was the only Maryland restaurant featured in The Washington Post’s “10 Best Breakfast Sandwiches in the DC Area” list.

Gwenie’s Pastries has been serving the Washington DC area and more for over 15 years in Rockville, MD (12113 Nebel St.) specializing in classic Filipino desserts, fusion specialties, as well as its own unique creations. The bakery opened a Frederick, MD location last year.

About Lapu Lapu: “Chef Ja’s dream has always been to bring the Philippines to you, one dish at a time. He launched his first concept, Kuya Ja’s Lechon Belly, in Rockville, Maryland, highlighting the famous Cebu-style Lechon belly. After gaining recognition and accolades, he expanded his vision with Lapu Lapu, focusing on Filipino breakfast to-go.

The name Lapu Lapu honors a national hero of the Philippines, known for leading his warriors to victory against Ferdinand Magellan and foreign invaders in the Battle of Mactan in April 1521. Inspired by this history, Chef Javier aims to help people start their day strong—beginning with a great Filipino breakfast.”
