Maryland Scam Alert

The Maryland State Police (MSP) are warning residents about a potential scam involving the Rockville Barrack’s phone number: 301-424-2101.

Authorities say scammers are “spoofing” the official barrack’s number to make it appear as though calls are coming directly from the police. In these calls, the scammers may attempt to trick people into providing personal or financial information.

MSP stressed that they will never call to ask for money or personal information. Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive a suspicious call and then contact their local barrack or police department directly to confirm its authenticity.

Officials also reminded the public to never share sensitive information, including Social Security numbers, bank account details, or other private data, with an unverified caller. For those who may have already provided information to a scam caller, MSP recommends taking immediate action:

  • Contact your bank right away.
  • File a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.

Scam attempts like this one are increasingly common, and authorities are asking Marylanders to stay alert and help spread the word to family and friends.
