Silver Diner, which first opened its doors in Rockville in 1989, has grown into a regional favorite across the DMV. This summer, the restaurant chain introduced a new family-oriented tradition, “Unplug at Silver Diner,”held Tuesday evenings as a way to encourage families and friends to connect over dinner and games without the distraction of screens.
Originally launched as a summer promotion, the event has proven so popular that Silver Diner will continue hosting Unplug Tuesdays through Thanksgiving. The program has already shown measurable success, with a 5% increase in kids’ meals sold, a 7% increase in Kids Club visits, and a remarkable 165% spike in Kids Club membership signups compared to last year.
“We’ve received so much positive feedback including the value of spending time away from screens, playing fun games and having great conversations while making memories,” said Silver Diner Chief Marketing Officer Matilde Ott. “Families and friends are able to spend time playing games and enjoying great food and healthy, award-winning kids meals.”
Each week, Silver Diner features a different family-friendly game suitable for all ages. Kids Club members receive special perks during Unplug Tuesdays as well, such as a complimentary kids’ shake with the purchase of a kid’s entrée.
The event runs every Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at all Silver Diner locations, except BWI. With its extension through the fall season, “Unplug at Silver Diner” has become a staple weekly gathering for families across the region.
