Former Montgomery County Student Member of the Board Matt Post Running for District 14 Delegate Seat

Matt Post, a Montgomery County native and former Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB), has announced his candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 14. The seat opened following Delegate Pamela Queen’s retirement, and Post joins incumbents Anne Kaiser and Bernice Mireku-North on the ballot for the three-member district.

Post, a graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, first gained local recognition when he was elected SMOB for the 2017–2018 school year. During his tenure, he represented more than 160,000 Montgomery County students and participated in decisions on issues ranging from school funding to curriculum. His election at the time marked him as one of the youngest public officials in the state.

District 14 covers much of eastern Montgomery County, including communities such as Olney, Damascus, and Burtonsville. Post grew up in Olney and has remained active in local civic life. After high school, he pursued higher education and later worked in public policy and education advocacy, most recently with the Maryland State Education Association.

The race will determine who represents the district alongside Kaiser and Mireku-North, both of whom are seeking re-election. The Democratic primary will decide the three delegates who advance to the general election.

Post’s candidacy highlights a generational shift in local politics, with a former MCPS student leader now vying for a seat in Annapolis. With the vacancy left by Queen’s departure, the race provides an opening for new voices while keeping strong Montgomery County ties at the center of the contest.
