Montgomery Parks has announced the reopening of Wheaton Ice Arena on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The rink is ready to glide back into action after a five-month closure to install a new refrigeration system.
The rink will open for public skating from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more details on hours and fees, please visit the arena’s Schedules and Fees webpage. A three-week group lesson series also begins on October 4 with classes offered for all ages and skating levels.
Discover Wheaton Passport to Sports Day on Sunday, October 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park. For just $10, families get a wristband and “passport” to explore Wheaton Ice Arena, Wheaton Indoor Tennis, and Wheaton Sports Pavilion—all in one day. Complete your passport with activities at each venue for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Wheaton Ice Arena
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.‒ Open skating with instruction for beginners at one specified area on the ice
- 1 p.m.‒Watch the Zamboni resurface the ice
- 1:15-2:45 p.m.‒ Observe our group lesson program or try out a beginner lesson at 1:20, 1:40, 2, or 2:20 p.m.
- 2:45 p.m. ‒Watch the Zamboni resurface the ice
- 3 to 5 p.m.‒ Open skate
Wheaton Indoor Tennis
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ‒ Open play for pickleball and tennis with assistance for beginners
Wheaton Sports Pavilion

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ‒ Explore stations to try all field sports including soccer, lacrosse, inflatable bubbles, and other games.
Wheaton Passport to Sports Day is $10 per person and includes skate rental and tennis racquet use while at the facility. This is a great opportunity to get active, try something new, and enjoy all the exciting offerings at Wheaton Regional Park with family and friends.
