Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is highlighting progress on several major construction projects that will bring new facilities and upgraded learning spaces to communities across the county.
Major progress has been made at Northwood High School, Crown High School, JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres, and Burtonsville Elementary School, with each project designed to address growing enrollment and replace aging infrastructure.
The Northwood High School project in Silver Spring involves a full rebuild of the campus. Students have been relocated to the former Woodward High School while construction continues, and the new Northwood building is expected to open by fall 2027. Crown High School, now being built in Gaithersburg, is slated to open in August 2027 and will help relieve overcrowding at surrounding high schools.
At the elementary level, the replacement project at JoAnn Leleck Elementary School in Silver Spring is scheduled for completion in August 2026, while the new Burtonsville Elementary School is also expected to be ready for students by August 2026. Both projects will provide modern classrooms and updated facilities designed to better serve their communities.
MCPS leaders say the work reflects a long-term commitment to providing students with safe, modern learning environments across the county. When complete, the four schools will feature upgraded facilities, technology-ready classrooms, and spaces that support student growth, learning, and community engagement.
