The Oldest Active EMT in Maryland, Ed Levien AKA “Pops”, Will Be Featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday

Two members of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad (BCCRS) will be featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show tomorrow, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 1 p.m. The episode, titled “Never Too Late,” will highlight stories of perseverance and community impact.

Among the guests is longtime BCCRS volunteer Ed Levien, recognized as the oldest active EMT in Maryland. According to a Washington Post profile published earlier this year, Levien began volunteering at age 65 after a career in advertising and went on to answer more than 3,000 emergency calls and log over 13,000 volunteer hours. Despite chronic health challenges, he continued to serve in the field until this spring, and today he still trains new EMTs and manages equipment for the rescue squad.

Also appearing on the program is Ella Edwards, a BCCRS EMT who, along with her father, was trained by Levien. Edwards will share the story of an off-duty lifesaving event, underscoring the ripple effect of Levien’s mentorship.

The Emmy Award-winning talk show hosted by Kelly Clarkson airs nationally. Viewers can check local listings to find the time and channel in their area at kellyclarksonshow.com/wheretowatch.
