As the federal government shutdown begins, local restaurants are rolling out special offers to help ease the burden on impacted employees. Several dining groups across Montgomery County are showing support by offering discounts and meal deals to federal workers who present valid government ID.
RASA: $10 Shutdown Bowls

RASA, the locally owned fast-casual Indian restaurant, has launched its $10 Shutdown Bowls, available throughout the shutdown at all locations. Workers can choose between the Shutdown Chicken Bowl or the Shutdown Veggie Bowl, both featuring basmati rice, tikka masala, sautéed spinach, kachumber salad, and a duo of mint cilantro and sweet tamarind chutneys.
“We know this shutdown is creating challenges for thousands of families, and this is our small way of showing solidarity and support,” said RASA co-founder Sahil Rahman.
Soko Butcher: $15 Furlough Special

Soko Butcher in Takoma Park is launching its Furlough Special, available starting tomorrow. Federal employees can enjoy the Soko Smashburger — made with two dry-aged butcher patties, mayo, American cheese, and served on a brioche bun — paired with beef tallow fries for just $15.
Thompson Restaurant Group: 20% Off
Matchbox – 1699 Rockville Pike, Rockville & 919 Ellsworth Dr., Silver Spring
Thompson Restaurants, which operates more than 65 locations across the DMV under 11 brands, is offering 20% off all checks for federal employees.
