First Look at Michelin-Recommended Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings; Only Maryland Location Now Open in Montgomery County

Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings, a Michelin-recommended Shanghainese restaurant with roots in New York, has opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. The restaurant is currently in its soft opening phase and will operate daily from 12 pm to 8 pm. A ‘first look’  video is available below.

Founded in Flushing in 2006, Nan Xiang has earned recognition for its authentic Shanghai-style xiao long bao, or soup dumplings, and has been Michelin-recommended for nine consecutive years. The new Bethesda location is a full-service restaurant, offering a menu that features its signature soup dumplings in a variety of flavors, including pork, crab meat, chicken, truffle, scallop, abalone, and vegetable. Diners can also order the “Lucky Six” basket, which includes one of each flavor.

In addition to dumplings, the menu features a wide range of dim sum dishes such as pan-fried pork buns, shrimp potstickers, siu mai, and handmade dumplings. Guests will also find noodle soups and stir-fried noodle dishes, including braised beef noodle soup, scallion oil noodles, seafood stir-fried udon, and pork chop noodle soup. Fried rice and stir-fried rice cakes are also available, along with soups such as hot and sour, West Lake beef, and steamed chicken with Chinese herbs.

Nan Xiang’s chef’s specials include Shanghai-style sweet and sour spare ribs, black pepper beef, creamy shrimp, and crispy flounder fillet. The restaurant also serves an all-day breakfast menu with hot and cold soybean milk, crispy dough sticks, scallion pancakes, and sweet pastries such as turnip ham puffs, durian puffs, and red bean puffs.

Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings is located on the lower level of Westfield Montgomery Mall at 7101 Democracy Boulevard, Suite 2350. There was previously an “express” version in Ellicott City (Howard County) that is no longer in business.
