Shouk, the plant-based kosher street food restaurant known for its award-winning Shouk Burger, has closed both of its remaining locations permanently (Rockville and DC).
Kosher Food and Drink reported that, according to the DC Kosher rav hamachshir for Shouk, the company shuttered both its Rockville, MD, and Washington, DC, locations as of 8:30 p.m. on September 30. Once a small chain with as many as five restaurants across the region, Shouk’s social media accounts have disappeared, and Google now lists its stores as permanently closed.
The Rockville location, which opened in November 2021 at 5568 Randolph Road in the Montrose Shopping Center, was Shouk’s first Montgomery County outpost. Located in a 2,000-square-foot space next to MOM’s Organic Market, it offered 20 seats and served the same menu as its DC locations, including the Shouk Burger, which earned national attention on the Food Network and in The Washington Post. Shouk’s offerings, inspired by lively street markets around the world, were built on fresh vegetables, beans, grains, and spices, without processed or engineered ingredients.
In addition to Rockville and its original DC restaurant, Shouk had expanded to Mt. Vernon Triangle, Union Market, and Georgetown, as well as a pop-up in Bethesda from 2022 until 2023. The closure marks the end of a brand that had become a distinctive option for kosher, plant-based dining in the region.
