Community Partners Unite for “Rapid Response Event” Friday Night Amid Government Shutdown

In less than 48 hours after the federal government shutdown was announced, two local organizers, Tiffany Kelly and Valarie Davis, mobilized a countywide effort to provide immediate relief to Montgomery County residents affected. The “Rapid Response Event” is taking place at Gaithersburg High School on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 7 pm to 9 pm.

The free event is open to all workers and families affected in Montgomery County and is designed to bring together resources, mutual aid, and community support under one roof. Attendees will have access to practical assistance, information on services, and the opportunity to connect with neighbors facing similar challenges.

“Join us for a community gathering focused on mutual aid, resource sharing, and emotional support during the government shutdown,” organizers said. “This event is designed to provide dignity, connection, and practical help, all in one space.”

The evening will feature contributions from a wide range of community partners, including Bad Mutha Fluffa Mobile Pet Grooming, Black Physicians and Healthcare Network, CASA, Community Hope Center, Epworth United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg Hub, Harris Teeter, Manna Food Center, Montgomery College, Montgomery County DHHS, Montgomery County Office of Food Systems Resilience, Nourish Now, Office of Delegate Lorig Charkoudian, Racial Justice NOW!, RideOn, Rose Pedals Consulting, Trinity Holy Cross, TRU 2 Fitness Health, WSSC Water, and WorkSource Montgomery.
