Montgomery Parks and nature centers come alive with festive fun, activities, and memorable moments for families to create together this Halloween season. From ghostly train rides to botanical Halloween parties and more, there’s something to give everyone goosebumps and to enjoy:
Halloween Eye Spy Trains | Saturdays and Sundays in October | 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cabin John Miniature Train; Wheaton Miniature Train and Carousel: Hop on board the beloved Halloween Eye Spy Trains for a festive journey with station stops at “Día de los Trenes” and “Trainsylvania.” Each rider receives an Eye Spy card to spot pumpkins, ghosts, black cats, and more as the scenic train rolls along. Fun for all ages! $6 per person.
Not so Spooky Skate | October 24 | 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. | Cabin John Ice Rink October 30 | 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. | Wheaton Ice Arena: Lace up those skates and bring your costume creativity to the ice! Kids can join a costume parade and enjoy making fun crafts. $20 per child.
Luminary Hikes | October 24 | 5 to 7:45 p.m. Locust Grove Nature Center: Enjoy a crisp fall evening on the trails and light up the night with hand-carved Jack-o’-Lanterns, then warm up by the campfire toasting marshmallow. $6 per person.
Halloween Creepy Crawlies: Bats Spiders and Owls | October 25 | 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Maydale Nature Classroom: Learn about some of our local “creepy crawlies” associated with Halloween: bats, spiders, and owls, and make a not–so–creepy animal craft. $7 per person.
BOOtanica | October 26 | 3 to 6 p.m. Brookside Gardens: Step into a world of botanical wonders with a Halloween twist! Dress in your favorite costume and explore indoor activity stations filled with trick-or-treat surprises, creative arts and crafts, and hands-on investigations celebrating autumn’s beauty. Finish the fun with a lively costume parade and spine-tingling stories. $20 per child.
Creepy Critters: Spooky Story Campfire | October 26 | 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Locust Grove Nature Center: Gather around the campfire for spooky stories and marshmallows roasting. $8 per child/adult combo.
Spooky Skull Hike | October 26 | 2 to 4 p.m. Maydale Nature Classroom: Put on your detective hat and take a self-guided hike to hunt for hidden animal skulls in the woods. Use clues to identify the skulls and get a Halloween treat after identifying them all (or wearing a costume). $4 per person.
Crack the Case | October 31 | 6 to 8 p.m. Brookside Nature Center: A good old-fashioned, ‘who done it?’ In this escape-room style experience, using clues and your detective skills, you are tasked with cracking the case before time runs out. Bring your favorite campfire snack to roast over a cozy campfire before heading into the nature center to start your adventure. $25 per person.
Pics in the Park: Halloween Edition | November 1 | 1 to 4 p.m. Black Hill Discovery Center: Swing by for a one-of-a-kind Halloween photo op. We’ll provide fun props and instant film photos; you bring your costume and your smile. No registration required. Free.
