On Thursday, October 2, Wootton Robotics, in partnership with Bonchon Rockville, held a Robotics Fair at Rockville Town Center. The event featured robotics mini games, Build Your Bots and Battle Bots tournaments, and live music, offering young participants a hands-on introduction to robotics and the FIRST Tech Challenge program.
The fundraiser brought in more than $700 to support Wootton Robotics’ rookie season, helping cover costs for parts, tools, and materials. Mechanical team member Tariq Bin Ashraf said, “Raising $700 far exceeded our expectations, as we realized how much our community believes in what we’re building. This fundraiser gives us the momentum and resources to take our robotics projects even further this season and better represent Wootton at competitions.”
In addition to Bonchon’s sponsorship, local families and former robotics team members contributed donations. One former participant noted, “Robotics Team was my childhood, what inspired me to become who I am today, and I know how costly this activity is… wish your team the best of luck.”
Bonchon Rockville emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. Manager Collin Wong said, “Supporting our community is not just part of what we do—it’s a reflection of who we are. We’re happy that we were able to host Wootton Robotics’ first fundraising event and look forward to many more opportunities.”
Wootton Robotics is a student-led team representing Thomas S. Wootton High School in regional, state, and national robotics competitions. The group designs, builds, and programs robots while promoting community outreach and STEM engagement.
