The Frederick community is coming together to support one of its own, Jacob, affectionately known as “the oven guy” at dōp pizza. Jacob has long been considered the heart of the restaurant’s operation, known for his dedication behind the pizza oven, first on the original trailer setup and now at the RAK Yard kitchen.
Recently, Jacob was diagnosed with throat cancer and has stepped away from work to begin treatment. His absence has been deeply felt by both his coworkers and the many customers who’ve come to know him over the years. “Truth is, dōp wouldn’t be where it is today without him,” the restaurant shared. “We miss him dearly every day, and we want to stand by him the way he has always shown up for us and this community.”
To help support Jacob through his recovery, dōp has launched a fundraiser, encouraging community members to contribute, share messages of encouragement, and help ease the financial burden of treatment. “If you’ve ever enjoyed one of Jacob’s pizzas, shared a laugh with him, or simply want to lift him up on his road to recovery — now’s the time,” the post reads. “Let’s rally together and show him the strength of the Frederick community.”
