MoCo-Based Kusshi Sushi to Open Its 8th Location at Reston Town Center This Weekend

Kusshi Sushi, a Montgomery County-born restaurant brand known for its modern take on Japanese dining, will officially open its eighth location on Saturday, October 18th, at Reston Town Center in Northern Virginia. The opening marks another major milestone for the locally grown restaurant group, which first launched in Montgomery County and has since become one of the region’s most popular names in sushi.

Kusshi made its debut in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose development in 2018. Its name, meaning “leading, foremost, preeminent, outstanding, or one of the best” in Japanese, reflected the owners’ mission to elevate the traditional sushi experience with inventive rolls, fresh seafood, and a sleek, social dining atmosphere.

The concept quickly took off, leading to additional openings in Bethesda (formerly Hanaro), Rockville Town Square, and Silver Spring (Downtown Silver Spring) here in Montgomery County with various additional locations across the DC metro area. Rumors are also swirling about a potential Germantown location, but that has not yet been confirmed or denied by management.

Now, the Reston Town Center restaurant represents the brand’s continued growth beyond Montgomery County. To celebrate its grand opening, Kusshi will host an exclusive Bluefin Tuna Cutting Ceremony at 4pm on opening day, offering guests a front-row look at the craftsmanship behind one of Japan’s most revered culinary traditions.

Following the ceremony, Kusshi will serve a curated Tuna Omakase set, a chef-led tasting menu centered around premium tuna. The omakase is priced at $80 per person, with optional sake pairings for an additional $25. Limited seatings will be offered at 5:00pm, 6:30pm, and 8:00pm, and reservations are required due to high demand. A $25 non-refundable deposit is required via Toast to secure a spot.

The new location, situated at 11909 Democracy Drive, Reston, VA, features the same contemporary aesthetic, elevated presentation, and energetic atmosphere that have made Kusshi’s Montgomery County restaurants local favorites. Reservations are required for the omakase experience and are also recommended for general dining on opening day. For details and updates, follow @thekusshisushi on Instagram.
