After nearly two decades as one of Rockville’s favorite spots for craft beer, wine, and community, Gilly’s Craft Beer & Fine Wine, located at 2009 Chapman Avenue, has announced it will close permanently after service on Sunday, October 19th.
In a heartfelt message shared with customers, the owners expressed deep gratitude to the Rockville community and the staff who helped make Gilly’s a local staple. “After 17 years of serving the Rockville community, Gilly’s Craft Beer & Fine Wine is announcing the difficult decision to close its doors permanently,” the message read. “The decision to close was not made lightly. Due to the current economic climate, it has become challenging to survive.”
Since opening in 2008, Gilly’s has built a loyal following for its extensive craft beer selection, laid-back atmosphere, and reputation as a true neighborhood hangout. The message reflected on the space’s role as a gathering place for countless local moments, “from first dates to daily work-from-home routines”, and thanked patrons for their years of support.
The owners also extended appreciation to their employees, past and present, crediting them for creating the warm and welcoming environment that became Gilly’s hallmark. “Our legacy as a fun neighborhood hangout was built with your welcoming and kind presence, and your hard work,” they wrote, noting that they are working with staff to ensure a smooth transition during the closure.
To mark the end of an era, Gilly’s will host a final week-long “fire sale” from Sunday, October 19 through Sunday, October 26, offering patrons one last chance to visit and celebrate the beloved Rockville establishment.“It has been an honor to be a gathering place for so many special moments,” the announcement concluded. “We can’t wait to raise our glasses with you, one last time.”
