Montgomery County Councilmembers Evan Glass and Sidney Katz will introduce new legislation known as the HERO Act, designed to ensure that the surviving spouses of career firefighters who die in the line of duty receive monthly pension payments without delay.
The proposal seeks to close a gap in County law identified following the death of Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins earlier this year.
The legislation underscores the County’s commitment to supporting fallen firefighters’ families and strengthening benefits for those who serve in hazardous public safety roles. A press conference announcing the bill will be held Tuesday, October 21, at 12:15 p.m. in the Montgomery County Council Office Building in Rockville.
