Hobby Lobby Hiring for First Montgomery County Location

Hobby Lobby has begun hiring for its upcoming Gaithersburg store, which will mark the company’s first location in Montgomery County. The national arts and crafts retailer has posted job openings for a retail co-manager at 15750 Shady Grove Road, the former longtime home of Best Buy.

While the store’s arrival was first reported a couple months ago by Robert Dyer, there has been no official announcement from Hobby Lobby or the property’s leasing company. The MoCoShow reached out to both following the initial report but did not receive a response.

The company’s job posting lists Gaithersburg as an upcoming site, confirming plans to expand into Montgomery County. However, there has been limited visible movement at the property in recent weeks, suggesting that an opening is not imminent. With that said, given Hobby Lobby’s track record of quickly converting existing big-box retail spaces, it may not take long once work begins.

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. was founded in 1972 by David and Barbara Green in Oklahoma City and has since grown into one of the largest privately owned arts and crafts retailers in the United States. The chain operates over 1,000 stores nationwide, offering a wide variety of products including art supplies, home décor, fabrics, floral and seasonal items, furniture, and framing services. The company is also known for closing on Sundays and emphasizing “family and faith based values” in its operations.

Once open, the Gaithersburg store will bring a new big-box option to the Shady Grove corridor and fill the large retail space left vacant by Best Buy’s closure. Additional job listings for the store are expected to appear in the coming months.
