Eight new restaurants have been added to the Michelin Guide Washington DC selection this fall, signaling continued growth and diversity in the region’s dining scene ahead of the full awards reveal in November. The Michelin Guide periodically announces new “recommended” restaurants before naming its starred and Bib Gourmand recipients, and this latest update highlights a mix of cuisines and concepts that reflect the city’s evolving food culture.
Among the new additions is Elmina, the modern West African restaurant from chef Eric Adjepong, known for his appearances on Top Chef. Located on 14th Street NW, Elmina brings a stylish take on Ghanaian flavors and hospitality, marking a significant moment for the representation of West African cuisine in the nation’s capital.
Fish Shop, a seafood concept at The Wharf, also joins the list. The restaurant, which draws inspiration from Scottish fish houses while incorporating Mid-Atlantic ingredients, showcases the growing international influence on Washington’s waterfront dining scene.
Another newcomer, Karravaan, offers a Silk Road-inspired menu that weaves together flavors from across Asia and the Middle East. The restaurant’s emphasis on shareable plates and bold spices aligns with Michelin’s recent recognition of globally influenced, less-formal dining experiences.
La’Shukran, located in the Union Market District, is the latest project from chef Michael Rafidi, whose other restaurant, Albi, already holds a Michelin star. La’Shukran celebrates Levantine cuisine with vibrant small plates and a lively atmosphere, continuing Rafidi’s track record of drawing critical acclaim.
Rounding out the list are several additional additions that further expand the guide’s range. PhoXotic reimagines traditional Vietnamese pho with premium cuts of beef and creative garnishes. Providencia blends Asian, Caribbean, and Latin influences, representing the city’s increasingly multicultural approach to fine dining. Raw Omakase brings a high-end sushi experience to Washington through its intimate chef-led counter service, while Your Only Friend, a gastropub known for inventive sandwiches and craft cocktails, reflects Michelin’s growing appreciation for elevated casual fare.
The inclusion of these eight restaurants underscores the breadth of Washington’s dining scene, from upscale omakase to comfort-driven West African and fusion menus. While none of the new additions have yet received stars or Bib Gourmand designations, being featured in the guide signals that Michelin inspectors view them as among the most noteworthy in the region.
The official Michelin awards ceremony for Washington, D.C., will take place November 18 in Philadelphia, where final star ratings and Bib Gourmand honors will be announced. For now, the eight new additions highlight the creativity, cultural range, and steady rise of Washington’s dining landscape as it continues to compete on a national stage.
