MCPD Temporarily Suspends Drone Operations in Downtown Silver Spring

The Montgomery County Department of Police has temporarily suspended its Drone as First Responder (DFR) operations in downtown Silver Spring due to safety concerns related to nearby construction at the current launch site.

While the department works to identify a new location, DFR equipment and personnel will be reassigned to support patrol operations in the White Oak area, based out of the 3rd District Station.

According to MCPD, “The department remains fully committed to the DFR program and its mission to enhance public safety. We appreciate the community’s understanding during this transition and will share updates as they become available.
