MedStar Health celebrated the grand opening of its newly expanded orthopedic practice at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center (MMMC) in Olney on October 10, following completion of a $2.1 million renovation that brings all orthopedic services under one roof.
The project, partially funded by a $1 million state capital grant secured through Senator Craig J. Zucker and the District 14 legislative delegation, doubles the size of the practice at 18109 Prince Philip Drive, adjacent to the main hospital. The 3,800SF expansion was completed in just four months and is now open to patients.
“This investment is about more than bricks and mortar,” said Emily Briton, president of MMMC and senior vice president for MedStar Health. “With more space and enhanced orthopedic services, we can care for more patients, reduce wait times, and keep high-quality specialty care close to home. We are grateful to Senator Zucker and our state delegates, Anne Kaiser, Bernice Mireku-North, and Pam Queen for their support in making this vision a reality.”
The expanded clinic features nine exam rooms, an enlarged waiting area, and advanced digital imaging technology. It also integrates physical therapy and pain management services on-site, providing patients with coordinated and comprehensive care in a single location.
MedStar Montgomery’s orthopedic team includes five full-time, board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons and four physician assistants, offering expertise in joint replacement, sports medicine, hand and spine surgery, podiatry, and general orthopedics. In 2024, the practice performed approximately 950 surgeries and saw 15,000 patient visits.
In addition to the orthopedic expansion, Sen. Zucker, who chairs the Senate Capital Budget Subcommittee, has helped secure funding for other critical upgrades at MMMC, including renovations to the emergency department.
