Following a 12-day trial in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, a jury convicted 27-year-old DeAngelo McRoy of first-degree murder, armed carjacking, armed robbery, and use of a firearm in a felony related to the 2024 killing of Delondre Sawyer in Gaithersburg.
McRoy faces life in prison plus 70 years, with sentencing set for April 28, 2026, while co-defendant Quinnton Brown is scheduled for trial in June 2026. A third individual pleaded guilty to accessory-after-the-fact to first-degree murder.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “On February 8, 2024, Montgomery County Police officers located the body of 35-year-old Delondre Sawyer in a wooded area on Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg. He had been shot in the back of his head. An investigation determined that on February 7, 2024, Sawyer was sitting behind the wheel of a 2013 gold Honda Accord when he was shot. His body was then left in the woods. There were three other individuals inside of the vehicle including McRoy and co-defendant Quinnton Brown. The vehicle was later seen on surveillance footage at a gas station located in the 700 block of Progress Way in Gaithersburg and eventually recovered by police in the 19000 block of Breezedale Lane in Germantown.”
