Solaire Social Food Hall in Downtown Silver Spring to Close Friday

Solaire Social, the downtown Silver Spring food hall located at 8200 Dixon Ave, will close its doors on Friday, October 24, as first reported by Source of the Spring.

According to an email shared with vendors, they were notified of the decision on Wednesday, October 22, and have been instructed to vacate the property by 10 p.m. Friday.

The food hall is home to 11 local food and beverage vendors, including Shuga x Ice, Cafe Shuga, Vegan Junk Food, Laud Shawarma, Passport Eatz, Passport Juices, Platinum Amala West African Cuisine, Firepit Brazilian BBQ, Pau & Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, El Jefe Wood Fired Pizza, and Ay! Mama Mex-Taqueria.

Vendors plan to hold a community farewell gathering on Friday from 1 p.m. until closing, offering discounted menu items while supplies last. Organizers expressed appreciation for the community’s support and said holiday to-go offerings for Thanksgiving and Christmas will still be available from select vendors in the coming weeks.

Solaire Social opened to the public in May 2024 as a 13,000-square-foot dining and entertainment destination curated by chef and restaurateur Akhtar Nawab of Hospitality HQ. The concept lived by the motto “Eat. Drink. Be Social.”, offering a space for chef-driven culinary brands and cultural concepts to thrive within a community-oriented environment.

The food hall served as the cornerstone retail activation within Solaire 8200 Dixon, a 27-story, 403-unit residential building developed in partnership between Washington Property Company (WPC) and the Cresset-Diversified QOZ Fund I. Designed by Eimer Design, the interior reflected Silver Spring’s industrial heritage. WPC, which helped transform the Ripley District from a declining industrial area in the early 2000s, envisioned the neighborhood as a lively hub for dining, housing, and entertainment — a vision that Solaire Social helped bring to life during its brief tenure.

Future plans for the food hall space at 1150 Georgia Avenue have not yet been announced.
