Maryland Bakery That Recently Expanded to Virginia Included in “Best Bakeries Around DC” List

Sunday Morning Bakehouse, the beloved Pike & Rose bakery and café founded by Montgomery County native Caroline Yi, has been named one of the “Best Bakeries Around DC” by Eater DC. The recognition highlights the bakery’s standout pastries, coffee program, and community-driven atmosphere, which have made it one of the region’s favorite morning stops since opening in 2019.

Chef and owner Caroline Yi grew up in Montgomery County, attending Wootton High School before earning her degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her journey began at the Pike & Rose Farm Market, where her handcrafted croissants, cookies, and seasonal pastries developed a devoted following. That early success inspired Yi to open a permanent brick-and-mortar location in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose development at 11869 Grand Park Ave., which she called the perfect transition from market pop-ups to a full café space.

Sunday Morning Bakehouse has since expanded its reach beyond Montgomery County, recently debuting a brand-new Virginia location at 1796 Chain Bridge Road in McLean. Yi says she began exploring the possibility of a Virginia location after the Pike & Rose location began drawing customers from Virginia.

Eater DC’s latest roundup praised Sunday Morning Bakehouse for its balance of refined technique and cozy charm, calling it one of the top spots in the Washington area for croissants, quiches, and other baked goods made with care.

Other local standouts joining Sunday Morning Bakehouse on Eater DC’s “Best Bakeries Around DC” list include Fresh Baguette, which operates popular Montgomery County locations in Bethesda and Rockville and Sticky Fingers, the longtime vegan bakery and café located just outside of Takoma Park.
