Maryland is 2025’s 12th Best State For Jobs, Per Study

With the unemployment rate at 4.3% and labor force participation at the lowest level in the past couple of years, the personal-finance company WalletHub today released its report on 2025’s Best & Worst States for Jobs, with Maryland coming in ranked 12th overall.


To “ease the process of finding employment for job seekers,” WalletHub compared the 50 states across 34 key indicators of job-market strength and economic vitality. The data set ranges from employment growth to the median annual income to the average commute time.

  • Maryland has the fewest part-time employees per 100 full-time employees, which is 1.7 times fewer than in Alaska, the most.
  • Maryland ranked 3rd in the nation in the “Job Market” category.
  • Maryland ranked 34th  in the nation in the “Economic Environment” category.
