Popular Silver Spring dessert café Sweeteria is expanding with a second Montgomery County location at 7525 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. The new spot moves into the former home of St. Arnold’s Mussel Bar, Tyber Bierhaus, and Thimian Thai.
The news was first reported by Robert Dyer and an opening date is not yet available. Sweeteria is owned by Ditlada Wichaidit and Soranan Karikarn, the husband-and-wife team behind Kao Thai Restaurant at 8650 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. The pair opened the first Sweeteria location in October 2020 at 8646 Colesville Road, next to Kao Thai.
According to the restaurant’s website, Sweeteria is a family-owned dessert café inspired by the vibrant dessert culture of Thailand. Known for its use of bright colors, playful textures, and intricate presentation, the café offers an artistic approach to sweets and drinks. Its menu features an array of pastries, savory toasts, creative desserts, teas, coffees, and refreshing specialty beverages designed to bring a taste of Thailand to Montgomery County.
“Sweeteria turns dessert-making into an art form with our passion,” the owners describe. “With an unforgettable variety of pastries, savory toasts, unique desserts, teas, coffees, and refreshing drinks, we strive to create something for everyone to love.”
Since opening in Silver Spring, Sweeteria has built a strong local following, becoming a neighborhood favorite for its colorful aesthetic, seasonal dessert creations, and cozy atmosphere. The upcoming Bethesda location will mark the café’s first expansion and bring its signature Thai-inspired sweets to another one of MoCo’s busiest dining corridor.
