Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos reports that a routine alcohol violation stop in the Long Branch area of Silver Spring led to a felony drug arrest Wednesday evening.
Officers with the 3rd District Community Action Team detained two adults who allegedly provided false names, and a subsequent search revealed a large bag of individually packaged fentanyl pills. Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute.
Cokinos tweeted: “Earlier this evening (10/29/25) at about 5PM your @mcpnews 3rd District Community Action Team (DCAT) was conducting operations in the Long Branch area of Silver Spring due to complaints about quality of life issues such as alcohol and drugs.
While in the area of Piney Branch Rd and University Blvd East, officers located two adult subjects engaging in an alcohol violation (open alcohol in public). The subjects then chose to provide false names to the officers which led to their arrests.
A search of the subjects revealed a large bag of individually packaged fentanyl pills for distribution (sales). Both were taken to central processing and booked.
Possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl is a felony.
“One pill can kill” is a very real statement. Proactively taking these deadly pills off the street saves lives.”
